After much debate I decided to use 1mm mild steel sheet for the floor, partly because I had the material and partly because I felt it offered superior strength with minimal extra weight. I also didn't like the idea of turning the bottom rails into swiss cheese by drilling all those holes in the frame to mount an aluminium floor. However, in hindsight, if I ever built another Locost I would use aluminium for the floor as I was disappointed with the amount of distortion that I had to rectify in the steel floor due to the welding process.
