After the carbon fibre mat was trimmed to shape masking tape was applied to the edges to stop the woven mat from unravelling during laying up. The carbon fibre mat is expensive, about 20 times more than fibreglass mat, and the epoxy resin is double the price of fibreglass resin, so this was an expensive option.
